" A powerful expression of Creative Activism"

Undoubtedly, one of my most ambitious projects is "See Me: Black Mental Health Visualized," a powerful expression of creative activism. This multifaceted visual endeavor aims to explore mental health in the Black community through two distinct components, while also challenging societal norms and promoting positive change.

The first part of the project involves a captivating photo series, driven by participant-led concepts of mental health manifestations. By empowering participants to share their unique perspectives, we embrace the core principles of creative activism, giving voice to those whose experiences are often marginalized or overlooked. Through artful and authentic portrayals, this photography series not only captures the essence of mental health challenges faced by Black and brown individuals but also serves as a tool for destigmatization and education.

The second part of "See Me" takes the form of a compelling documentary-style video, where participants courageously share their personal experiences with mental health, some of the same participants of the photo series. By sharing their journeys openly, participants become advocates for mental health awareness, contributing to a larger movement towards understanding and compassion within the Black community.

"See Me: Black Mental Health Visualized" goes beyond simply capturing imagery or recounting experiences. It is a call to action, utilizing the language of art and storytelling to challenge prevailing narratives and promote empathy, acceptance, and solidarity. The project aims to shift negative perceptions, challenge stereotypes, and foster a sense of community that encourages open conversations around mental health.

As an artist and creative activist, I am committed to using my craft as a catalyst for positive social transformation. Through "See Me," I seek to initiate change by addressing mental health stigma head-on, while also fostering a more inclusive and supportive environment for individuals facing mental health challenges within the Black community. Support will be instrumental in amplifying the impact of this creative activism, allowing the project to reach wider audiences and catalyze meaningful dialogue and action surrounding mental health issues.

By combining art, storytelling, and advocacy, "See Me: Black Mental Health Visualized" embodies the very essence of activism, harnessing the power of creativity to drive lasting change, promote empathy, and create a more compassionate and understanding society. I am deeply grateful for the opportunity to embark on this journey of creative activism, aiming to make a lasting impact on the mental health discourse within the Black community and beyond.
